To configure a Solaris server's smart relay host, most people will simply edit the DS entry in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and leave it at that. But no Solaris admin worth the name should do this.
A Solaris 10 bug 6797442 causes fmd, the Solaris Fault Management daemon, to log an "ereport.io.ddi.fm-capability" event in /var/fm/fmd/errlog tens, even hundreds, of times per second. This much activity keeps logadm from rotating the fmd errlog when it reaches the defined size causing the /var filesystem to blow out.
logadm is a handy Solaris utility that can be used to rotate log files. With logadm managing logs, system admins are not required to write complicated scripts to restart applications when there is a need to rotate log files.
